The GunFighter
Narrative
The Cowboy enters the bar looking to buy a drink, suddenly he is greeted with a narrator-like voice that speaks on peoples thoughts, future actions and escalates the situation in the film. Mid-way through the Short Film, ‘The Voice’ starts releasing peoples secrets such as affairs, murders, embarrassing motives etc. The characters in the bar all have their own set position in the story e.g. the murders, comedic and affairs are set to each people, the Gunfighter murdered one mans son who was apart of the bar crowd, Bill Jessup who had sex with his sons sheep, Sam the black barman who slept with one of the Cowboys wife which is discovered when the Narrator releases the secret to everyone.
After this compilation ends, the films ending consists of a shootout which ultimately results in everyone’s deaths in the bar, except for Sally who survived the bar fight, but then who’s death is announced by the Narrating voice which would transpire the next day to the hand of a rabid wolf.
Character
The Characters are shown in a particular way to express to the Audience what the characters styling would look like in them times (Western Cowboy times). E.g. The Gunfighters entrance made him look like an outlaw and very menacing, with this stereotype view this was confirmed when the Narrating voice says that he has a bounty of $200, with Bounty Collectors waiting for him and he killed one of the Barmen’s Sons.
Mise-En-Scene
The Location, Props and Costumes have been designed in such a way that allows immersion within the movie to be consistent. Because the short film is supposed to be based on a Western Cowboy Era, the Costumes, The Props and Locations have been designed to suit this role play so that it is immersive and realistic due to the short film being based on them times.
Cinematography
The Cinematography in The Gunfighter lacks due to a lot of the shots being still, they’re is no tracking shots or strong movement with the camera. This is because the characters don’t move about much and due to it being very comedic, lacks the need for it to be required due to dialogue being passed around to the people often throughout the short film
Editing
The editing pace is at a moderate speed, at times it can be fast if two characters are directing conversations to each other and slightly slower when the Narrator is narrating a character.
Sound
The Narrators voice the is heard is Diegetic due to the characters having been able to listen to what the Narrator is commenting on the situation. In this film there is no none Diegetic sound this is because the purpose of the film is to show what a movie would look like if the none Diegetic sound could be heard and how the characters within the story would react to it.

There Comes A Knocking
Narrative
‘There Comes A Knocking’ starts of with setting the stage and the scene by then eventually leading on to introducing the character(s). This includes the main protagonist ‘Emma’, her Late Husband ‘John’ and her friend that plays a small role by only having a voice messaged played by Emma on her Voicemail machine.
John is Emma’s Husband, who we find out has passed on by listening to Johns voicemail which seems like an ordinary message but then her friend also left her a following message after that which is consistent of her giving her sincere condolences to Emma through a recorded message, the sentence as stated was “Hey Emma, i heard about John. I just wanted to let you know i am so sorry and that…” Which is quickly cut off and returned to John’s Voicemail which suggests that she is listening to his voice on a constant loop suggesting that was the most recent time she has heard his voice but as the scene presents itself it looks as if Emma is filled with guilt, maybe from missing the call or wishing she called him back earlier on etc?
The ending of the Short Film consists of a loud clock chime that plays on which wakes up Emma during her sleep, with confusion she checks her alarm clock to see that it is 3AM. She then hears a sudden knocking, which forces her to be startled and launch up in her bed. A few clock ticking sounds later she hears another repeated pattern of knocking. She then gets up out of her bed to investigate the sudden disturbance. She then walks out of her room to then realise that the noises are coming from behind a locked door which leads into a room she has recently lost access to, due to having fitted the new door but then realising its faulty. She gets close to the door and takes a peak under it, she sees nothing but then hears a big noise which is lead on by big bangs and clashes, followed by a hinge setter that she previously lost by dropping it under the locked door gap, rolling towards her from under the door. Which then causes her to cry in fear and shout “Leave Me Alone!” to the door.
She then looks to run into her room but then sees the back of a person shaped figure sitting in a rocking chair, facing the window. She then slowly while recovering from her scare, identifies the person being her Deceased Husband, ‘John’. She calls his name, John turns his head 90* to the right, to this she says “Is that you” “Is that really you!?” He the’]”[‘[‘[[[[[[[n replies “Yes, Emma…” “It’s me”. She then begins to tear up and ask if he can stay, he then replies “Yes Emma” then turns his head back to the window which then leads to the camera going back to Emma, showing her teared up with a Demon-Like figure standing behind her, which suggests that in order for the Demon to toll his devil play/invasion, He/She had to be invited in by the owner of the house (Which suggests Emma is the Sole owner) to be able to stay and that the Demon used Emma’s emotional attachment (John) to trick her and be invited inside to stay.
Mise-En-Scene
The House that Emma is living in is consistent of washed out colours, which is related to her mood and her situation, this is because Emma’s husband has died which is like the life has been sucked out of the house. The house is quite old and rusty looking but the inaccessible door is very daugnting and Infamous, it is also contrasting because it is in contemporary times with contemporary clothing, technology and language. When Emma wakes up by the mysterious sounds, the setting is set at 3AM with the big blue moon shining its blue light which discretely follows its way around the house, there is an increase in shadowy textures which with all this put into account, sets the stage for a classic horror movie type feel, look and immersion.
Cinematography
The Cinematography that is presented in the film is executed excellently, it presents itself in a way that you would see in a big expensive Blockbuster movie but is presented in this Short Film, the space that is on set is being used wisely and respectively, there is many great camera angles that allows the audience to get more of a send and feel of the location where this whole Horror flix is set.
Editing
The editing pace is vigilant, in terms of when something is due to happen the films edit makes sure that you know when something transpires or not. The editing changes pace constantly, when a set of events are happening it is quick along with the music and sounds, when it’s just introducing the stage it is slow and informative.
Sound
All of the sound is None Diegetic, the music, the instruments used to create suspense etc. The only Diegetic sounds are the noises that attracts Emma to danger and causes a reaction from her, whether its sadness, stress or fear.

Whisper
Narrative
The movie starts with showing a teenager sleeping in her bed, when suddenly her Amazon Alexa awakens and asks for the person who is speaking to repeat themselves, the Teenager wakes up in confusion to turn on her lamp, she stares at the Alexa thinking that it’s possible that a glitch occurred. So she turns of her lamp and resumes her sleep, then the Alexa turns on again to say that she could not hear her and asked her if she said “I’m watching you”. She quickly turns on her lamp with fear to then turn her eyes to the door doubting whether she hears a presence or she’s psychologically hearing things. Alexa activates yet again o ask if she said “Come find me”. She begins to hear creaking floorboards from the upstairs hallway through the open door, she then says did you say “Look in the closet”. The teen hears mild groaning sounds and sees her clothes shifting as if it was a gateway to whatever was taunting her. Her Amazon Echo then started making the registering sound before the teenager then sees a demon like monster under her desk that the Amazon Alexa was on, the Demon then grabs her hands and the teen begins to scream before being dragged under the table and the lamp which was the only solid source of light smashing due to the restraint of the Demon upon the teenager
Character
The Teen Girl is shown as a classic female being a damsel in distress-like-girl. She is asleep and is then terrorised by this creepy creature that wants to play a sick game, similar to hide and seek, the girl does not move so the creature taunts her repetitively before attacking her at the end.
Mis-En-Scene
The Location is set in a normal looking bedroom, with the classic look a Teen would stereotypically have, it’s very contemporary looking with tech such as the Amazon Alexa being around her. The girl is wearing sleepwear and the creature is wearing a white gown-like sheet. The movement is very slow and steady, this is due to the Girl being careful and steady when experiencing this creepy, paranormal encounter. Lighting is minimal due to it being set in the night or early hours of the morning.
Cinematography
The Cinematography usage lacks in this film due to the scene being set in only one room with minimal viewing angles and slow movement of the camera.
Editing
The editing rate was moderate, it wasn’t too fast but it wasn’t too slow, it was just right and i think with the style and how the short film performed i thought that the editing pace was set right and appropriately.
Sound
The diegetic sound that you can hear is the creepy groaning noises from the creature and the creatures use of Amazon Alexa to taunt along with cricket sounds due to it being night. The none diegetic sound features intense music that changes its intensity depending on how scary the situation is getting progressively.
